CORONAVIRUS DEATH TOLL IN INDIA
Coronavirus masks are now established as an effective defense against this low mortality rate disease. The Indian death toll unfortunately rose very fast due to the 2nd wave of infections. Now, the 3rd wave has also set in with the Omicron variant. Of all the deaths worldwide, maximum deaths have been in USA. Hubei, the capital of Wuhan was the epicenter of this disease. 5,502,890 people have died as of date. The count of dead and the infected in India is only behind USA now.
India saw one death on 11th March which was suspected to be due to Coronavirus. But, later it was confirmed to be from other causes. Cases have seen many spikes and falls over the months. Some states are worst affected than others but none is spared by the virus. By now 483,790 deaths out of 35,528,004 confirmed cases have come to light in India. India’s Coronavirus recovery rate was above 97.19% before this 2nd wave, the highest in the world. This is when the people seem to have dropped all fears of the virus. Many can still be seen loitering without a mask. Some wear masks around the neck or below the nose, strange humans!

With the hopes of an early vaccine rollout are high, seems the worst is over!
* For Japan, 705 people are quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship. This cruise ship is anchoring at Yokohama for several weeks. It is suspected that Japan’s problems started from this ship. Nearly 1,000 people were allowed to disembark from the ship. They had tested negative to Coronavirus tests, but seems there were some misses.
Coronavirus has taken 219 countries and territories under its grip now. Many countries which had just 1 case have seen cases skyrocketing in no time. Such is the nature of this virus. The worse impacted countries after USA are India, Russia, Brazil, France and UK. Everywhere the new cases are still emerging but the rate is down considerably.
USA is the worst sufferer due to this Chinese virus. It has seen the largest number of cases, over 60,954,028 and a whopping 859,046 people have died. The respite for US is that it has already vaccinated its entire population. India too has stepped up vaccination drive big time. It would be impossible to vaccinate India’s entire population because of the kind of people that live here.
CORONAVIRUS SPREADING SPEED IN INDIA
India was all fine until the return of infected NRI and foreign nationals visiting here. India saw its worst peak of infections in September 2020. Things were looking headed for better, but now total infections in India are creating new world records daily. The 2nd wave had already peaked in May 2021. Now people and government are anxiously looking at when the 3rd wave hits the country. The fear of Coronavirus was all gone after the initial frenzy to buy hand sanitizers and masks. People had even resorted to hoarding and stocking essentials. But, now seeing how fatal this new Coronavirus wave is, seriousness among people is back. Retailers and wholesalers, were all back to their pre-COVID sales figures and normalcy was returning fast. Alas! lockdowns and curbs are again becoming the new normal.
Initially people were even finding it hard to procure masks. But, now Coronavirus has been here for so long that stocks are umpteen for both N95 and surgical masks. People in USA are curious to know P95 vs N95 masks.
INDIA’S FIGHT WITH CORONAVIRUS
Proudly speaking, India is undertaking the vaccination drive within the country at a fast rate. India’s COVAXIN and COVISHIELD vaccines have proven to be very effective and safe. The country is even supplying vaccines to other friendly nations free of cost. What a boon India is to humanity!
Indians already have high immunity towards infections. Some people jokingly say that Coronavirus won’t even be able to extract a sneeze out of Indians. Jokes apart but there is a degree of truth in this too. India inadvertently makes its kids quite tough from the day they are born. The polluted air, water and food and the lifelong tussle of Indians with them makes them quite tough. I do not mean to say that Indians never get ill of viruses or bacteria. They do catch diseases and that too in large hordes. But, the mild symptoms which most Coronavirus patients display should not be a serious concern for Indians.
I haven’t seen any poor or homeless person getting the infection. Only the people who can afford costly treatments or who are already the sophisticated ones are falling ill. Coincidence? Maybe not!
